bonkers club hits

Twenty years ago (TWENTY!) on a Friday night like this I typically would have been getting ready to go to the local dance club Bonkers in my sleepy little town of Latrobe, PA. Here are a couple of the songs I would have been desperately hoping the DJ would play, not necessarily in this order:

and warner brothers doesn’t allow embedding on this one:

synclavier ii

When I was nine years of age there wasn’t a more mysterious and awe-inspiring musical instrument than the Synclavier.

The Synclavier was responsible for a large portion of the sound of one of my favorite pop albums of all time, Hall and Oate’s Big Bam Boom. It’s too bad the irony and sensuality of the song All American Girl is lost on the dim person who made this jingoistic looking “video” for the song to post on YouTube

einstein is alive and a crazy synth hacker

I know I am starting to risk looking like nothing but a matrixsynth reblogger, but this is too funny/awesome to pass up. This dead-ringer for a certain famous physicist tore apart a classic roland synth and turned it into a three tier organ type thang

now that’s what i call circuit bending!

drinking coca-cola and eating mcdonalds

rumor has it that Coca Cola is going to roll out a new formula Coke sometime this summer, possibly an attempt to compete with Pepsi’s throwback cane-sugar bevs?

what has this got to do with techno or house?  nothin’, but there was a dope acid house dj mix by jackmaster called “drinking coca-cola and eating mcdonalds” that helped rekindle my interest in house back in 2006.  i will post it when i get around to ripping it from CD again.

this was one of the dope tracks from the aforementioned dj mix

this was another one of the cuts that hooked me
