My ears perked up recently when Detroit native Tony Ollivierra mentioned on Facebook that he had just finished a down and dirty crate digging session for some obscure vinyl to use as sample fodder for future productions. I really wanted to hear what kind of “Dynamite Soul” he mines for his deep cuts, so I asked him if he’d throw together a mix for this (admittedly painfully neglected) blog. I don’t know Tony personally but follow him on Facebook because I am a fan of his productions, so I was pretty surprised when he agreed to do a mix. He told me the tracks he bought for sampling weren’t really DJ mix material so instead he compiled a wicked mix that glides effortlessly from disco to afro-house and winds up with some smooth melodic techno. It seems like a lot of his selections are only available in digital format, so I am guessing Tony mixed this using mp3s, but don’t quote me on that. He’s pretty in the loop so he might have white labels of much of this stuff. Anyway, I’ve been banging this on my iPhone for several weeks now and finally got around to posting it. This is perfect for summer evenings. Enjoy!
