On the eve of the festival, Paxahau goes and announces that, allegedly, Carl Craig will reprise his role as creative director of the festival next year.

“In the two years of festival programming that he undertook, Craig became known for his wandering eye that embraced all manner of acts from the musical spectrum—broadening the idea of the ‘electronic music’ title to include post-rock (Tortoise), hip-hop (De La Soul and The Roots) and much more. He’ll no doubt bring that same sensibility to his new role as creative director, which Paxahau—the current producers of the event—have confirmed will extend to involvement in ‘artist bookings and the festival’s brand image.’”

I can’t help but think that my recent coverage helped make this happen.  ;)

Behind the cut, the alphabetical list of performers at this year’s Detroit Electronic Music Festival that I am going to try to check out.  I’ve prepared an excel spreadsheet sorted by day, time, and stage, being careful to note and plan for overlap where necessary.  I am such a nerd.  I am having trouble deciding on an after party for Sunday night.  I really want to check out the thing with Gene Farris, Roy Davis, Ibex, Scott Grooves, and Keith Worthy, but I might get sucked into the Jeff Mills thing.  I’ve never been a huuuuuuge fan of Mills though so who knows.  Omar-S is also allegedly playing a Sunday night party so we’ll see.  Anyway, here’s the list: (more…)

For my money, Expose’s Freestyle classic “Point of No Return” is up there with the greatest dance tracks of all time. I mean, I forgot all about this track until i saw the movie Adventureland today (which, incidentally, was only fair aside from the awesome shots of Kennywood park) but it’s so so so good.

I think I like this better than even Shannon’s “Let the Music Play”.
